So, I’ve recently dropped a video briefing you in on when I began my “fandom” of Dawn Richard’s music while unboxing the latest Second Line album that hit shelves 4/30/21. I, and a couple others who pre-ordered received the album 2-3 days early. I received mine 4/27/21 and almost lost my mind.
This album is a complete evolution of sonics from Dawn’s previous bodies of work and I think it will be “the one” that places her in more public visibility. It’s a beautifully done album. Beautifully done, hands down.
It starts fast and then gets slow and reflective - with that striking recall to an almost archaic classical era with Le Petit Morte, you will definitely find a part of yourself in this album.
A second line is part of a funeral parade in which people come together and celebrate - even if you don’t know the person. It’s a huge celebration - people relating, dancing, coming together, and changing. This album is definitely for NOLA, the weirdos, the artists, the stans who know the previous eras, etc.
I’m so impressed.
Buy the album, collect the Art and then stream this shit. It’s worth it.
